Last week the Senate rejected House Bill S 1348 that would have provided an amnesty to an estimated 12-20 million illegal aliens.
The pro-immigration forces are back at work trying to overturn the Senate's rejection of the bill. President Bush has said he will meet with every Republican member of the Senate that voted against the bill and attempt to persuade them that they were wrong by voting NO. This week-end, he also said, that he understands that a lot of Americans and Senators have trouble with a deal that allows legalization of 12-20 million illegal aliens in exchange for heavy-duty enforcement in the future.
He says he understands that many American don't trust that the Federal government will live up to the enforcement end of the bargain because of past failure to do so. But President Bust says he will go to Capitol Hill Tuesday and look the Republicans in the eye and assure them that they can trust him to see that all enforcement happens.
There is something terribly strange about his whole argument.
It is as if the President who has refuse to enforce most immigration laws the last six years is somebody other than himself.
In addition, President Bush appears to be saying, "You can trust me to enforce the law if you approve the immigration" but he is suggesting that without passage the illegal immigration problem is going to grow much worst because the President won't be enforcing the law!
AND HE WONDERS WHY PEOPLE DON'T TRUST HIM?
If you are opposed to amnesty, I encourage you top get on the phone this morning and call your Senator and express your views...............tomorrow may be too late!
