Globe spinning reel??
« on: May 27, 2003, 11:05:35 AM »
Has anyone ever used a globe spinning reel?? I just ordered a GF1000 Globe spinning reel it was almost half price so I bought it to try. I have been having trouble with using cheaper reels lately so I figured it was time to change some of them. My main rod setups are Okuma's, Fin Nor's and Viva spinning reels and they have been great so far.  I also have lesser priced Quantums which i'm changing out and bottom basement cheaper Okuma's are crap too the bail gives me a hard time casting and on opening too so its history maybe I'll send them back to japan.  I worked for a big company and our japanese division treated us like crap and hammered us over building a quality products well their products ain't so hot either so I will give it back to them.  This is a 5 ballbearing Okuma costs around $30 the bail is hard to click open in any position it is in and it closes on the spool while casting not good I have the lure fling back at me? The higher priced Okuma's are awesome $60 to $70 dollar range it sure hurts to put out the cash but if thats what I have to do to get quality stuff thats it. The new quantum reel the anti reverse doesn't work right out of the box not good on single hand hooksets.  I never had any bad reels yet till now and their brand new this season. So I'll try the Globe and see how it does.  If i have trouble with a product thats pretty bad and if my pay check relied on fishing this reel would be in Davy Jones's locker deep sixed for sure!!      BigBill

I tried the Globe GF1000 spinning reel(9 ball bearings) out today and it lists the same as the $70 Okuma(10 ballbearings) but for $37 almost half price its a great buy as just as good.  GoFishin.com has them.  BigBill

I also notice the more bearings you have its a little tight till it breaks in but its still so much smoother.
