Yugo's are good and you can find pretty nice quality for under $150. I prefer a German k98--slightly smaller stock and mine shoots better. Those are your 2 best military surplus options.
REmington makes an 8mm in the model 700 I believe. I've seen Remingtons online a few places and heard good things.
I purchased a Swedish 8mm sporter rifle from allans armory (
www.allans-armory.com). Great guy to deal with, very fair pricing, and very accurate descriptions and pictures. I picked up a great 8mm with my C&R license (shipped right to my door). Rifle looks awesome and shoots moa with S&B 8mm 196gr ammo. Rifle was manufactured by Husqvarna in Sweden for hunting, not military. Came drilled and tapped, unlike a milsurp where you have to modify to scope it or use a removeable scope mount like the Iron-Elite which adds weight.
I've used my 8mm only on deer so far here in WI. I'm planning an elk hunt for 2008 as we speak. Although I've had awesome success and kills on deer with the S&B ammo, I'll probably change to either Hornady Custom or Nosler Custom ammo. The Hornady is priced better, the Nosler comes in Accubond, Partition, and Ballistic tip. All these options except the 150gr ballistic tip fire a 195-200 grain bullet at over 2500 fps.....look out elk!!
