243 Super Lite can shoot
« on: June 12, 2007, 08:51:35 PM »
Just to let you know , i took my 243 SL to Hooker for the P-dog shoot . I kept my shotting slow to not over heat the barrel and was very impressed with how well it did out to 400 yards .

The key is to shoot slow and find a load that it likes , mine was a Speer 80 gr. Hotcore over 33 gr of H4895 with a CCI LR primer , this combo worked well once i had a chance to get it dialed in at Dan's place .

That's impressive shooting. How much time were you allowing between shots for cool down? Charlie

Ok , in order

1)  About 5 min , the barrel will heat very fast being so lite .

2)  As soon as i get all the pics loaded to go along with the story .

3)  Not sure , just set the die up with a factory round that i had , I may want to check that .  ???  ;D  ;)

Stimply,

Great Shootin !

I went to Nef website after reading your post....That Super light  243 barrel looks more like a bull barrel than a sporter contour barrel ? Or does the front sight just make it look thicker ?

Is the Super light one of the new ones made by Marlin?

Thanks,
Eric

Eric,

You can't really tell about the contour by the pics at H&R, there are a bunch of errors on the site, the pics don't always match the actual product. :-\ There was a survey of barrel contours done a while back, Superlights have muzzle diameters of ~.600", give or take a bit, but the barrel just forward of the chamber swell is thinner and has less taper than a standard contour barrel, plus they're only 20" long. ;)

Eric

The superlite is closer to the Sportster rimfire barrels than any of the other ones , it does make for a very light carry gun that handles quickly though .

I have to admit, there was a .243 Superlight at Sportsman's Warehouse earlier this week, it definately does feel good in hand, and if I hadn't just bought 2 rifles, a slug gun and a barrel in the last 3 weeks, I probably would have gone home with it. ::) ;)
