New Stampede
« on: June 16, 2007, 10:40:54 PM »
My wife went with me to a gun show a couple weeks ago. I was moving up and down the aisles, and realized I was alone. My wife had stopped to admire a 4 3/4" blued .357 Stampede. I had never really looked at them before, I have Rugers, but the deep blue and beautiful case hardening had caught her eye. Needless to say, we bought it. Haven't shot it yet, but the action is smooth, and the trigger is great. I've never seen a trigger that good on an out of the box Ruger, that's for sure. We are both looking forward to shooting it.

Great guns, I have two. A piece of advice however, go over every screw and make sure its properly tightened. I had my base pin retainer screw come apart on the range. At home a check revealed that most screws on both revolvers needed to be tightened.

I have a Stampede and an old style Ruger Vaquero.   I like the feel of the Stampede a lot better, but the sites seem to be off by a lot.  The Vaquero sites are right on.   Anyone else have that problem with the Stampede?

I tried a Stampede just after they came out, and it shot quite a ways to the left.  I had to send it in as soon as I bought it because when you cocked it fast it would skip right over the cylinder notch.  When I sent it in I had a note that it shot to the left and asked them to fix that too.  They sent me back the gun, with a target that showed all theirs went to the left as well, but they said it was within factory specs.  They did fix the timing problem.  I sold it and bought something else, but it was a nice looking revolver.  I wish they would have just turned in the barrel a tad for me, I might have kept it if it would not have shot so far off, and I didn't feel like spending the money to send it somewhere for that.

Hey dad, I've had a Stampede for over a year now in a 45 Colt (I also have a Ruger BH in the same caliber). The Stampede handles better, has a better trigger, and was more accurate out of the box. If it shoots to the left of POA "regulate the load to the sights" by reloading. Even if a company does that for you by altering the sights or barrel, they'll have to include the factory load they settled on (most won't). I've had to have the cylinders re-cut, trigger "lightened", and a Bowen over sized pin installed on my Ruger to make it shoot with the Beretta, of course us 1911 shooters are used to spending extra money on a gun to make them perform; don't be afraid to do the same with the Beretta, for its worth it IMHO. I don't buy a gun "sight unseen" anymore because I've seen too many guns vary in quality enough times to convince me that even new guns need close inspection followed by a good "break in" period. BTW, I like your choice of "rides", as well as your gun - got one myself. Regards, Jager
