Lyman DPS 1200 Upgrade kit
« on: June 20, 2007, 08:13:14 AM »
Lyman offers an upgrade kit for their DPS and DPS2 powder dispensers that bumps the fill speed up to that of the new DPS3. It also includes a change to the floor of the powder box to sloped to allow easier cleaning. Midsouth has it in stock, or did, I already ordered mine!! ;D

How do they accomplish the speed change? Personally I use a dish of powder with a lee scoop, throw a scoop in and by the time I seat a bullet in the last case the next one is ready.  But for $20 the upgrade sounds pretty good.   KN

That's what I've been doing too!! This is the reply from Lyman when a member at another forum emailed them about the upgrade kit.

Yes, the upgrade kit will increase the speed of your DPS. This is due to a redesign of the powder box. The dispensing tube is larger and the bushings have been eliminated. The floor of the powder box is now sloped allowing for faster powder changes and cleaning.

I upgraded my DPS2 today, very easy to do!! I loaded up some 30-30 ammo with BL-C2, filling took about half the time it took before, maybe even less, it would be done filling before I could finish seating the bullet in the last case charged.

Clean up was much easier, most of the powder flowed out on it's own, didn't take much brushing to remove the what was left in the nooks and crannys!! Just ran it to empty the delivery tube and I was done.

It comes with a bushing to insert in the end of the delivery tube for some stick powders that may tend to overfill.

The only issue I had is the little door on the powder box that you tip down, is kinda stiff to open compared to the original, other than that, no problems.  ;)
