Sights for BC in 45-100
« on: June 20, 2007, 09:34:17 AM »
Sights for my Buffalo Classic.  I'm the newbie!  Have just finished my new stock from Gunstocks Inc.  My barrel is getting reamed out to 45-100 and chambered for use with blackpowder and PPB's next month.  I am looking for sights and need help!  Am planning on using a Lee Shaver globe w/level in front - low.  I thought about a Williams Foolproof with Target Knobs but am worried about not having enough elevation adjustment to shoot past 200 yds.

Lee Shaver can put a false tang on the BC so it could use a Soule type tang sight but that cost more than the rifle I would think.  Marable list a "tang sight" for the BC.  The pic does not look like it has any kind of markings on the round shank.  It says micrometer adjustments but, how would you chasnge and then return to where you were?

Thanks for the advice in advance!

Tennessee, Welcome to GB's, good place to be.

Congrats on the BC and upcoming mods.  Want to see Lee's work?  This was mine, and I'll vouch for Lee's work anytime.  The sight he saeels on Ebay is better than the one I had and it (mine) was excellent.

How's this look to ya? ;D  He does very nice work and it's not as expensive as you might think. Check Here

On your other note, there is one fellow here using a Williams FP with BP in the 45-70 pushing, I think, a 500gr to 600yds, and the sights covers it, so I think the 45-100, ought to go "a mite farther".

But you wont go wrong with Lee's sight either.  He is very experienced in the fine art of gunsmithing and shooting BPCR.

Now you've got me all tore up!  While you were readin my post I was over in paper patch bullets reading something you had written about grease cookies! I agree with you I think they help your barrel, not the bullet!

I think the consensus was it keeps the fowling soft.  I know if I use the wrong lube the residue at the end of the barrel gets hard faster.

Don't feel bad, I see it all the time.  ;D ;D ;D ;)

well Duh!  :o  Never even thought of it when I typed.  Course chicken feathers aren't too good for the barrel either ;D
