I am no metallurgist or firearms expert, but my money is with the Ruger.  Not many single shots out there of any kind (if there are any) are stronger than the Ruger No 1.  An amazing number of cartridges, both of high pressure and of large (even huge) caliber have been put in the Ruger in both factory and custom rifles.

Hi There,

Due to the break barrel design of the SPR18 ( actually a Baikel ) means it cannot be as strong as the falling block action of the Ruger No1 and No3.

The safety factor is there for the factory loadings it is chambered for, BUT it is a weak design in that it hinges to open and has no top lock lug to stop the barrel from flexing toward the open position. This can lead to frame stretching and all its problems. Use it for what it is and if you reload, use mid range charges and it will last a lifetime. Bolt action and falling blocks are where the strength is in the design of rifle actions. Have fun. That's what it is all about.
