H&R customer service just told me 8-10 week wait before barrels are available in 357.

Man thats a long time glad i got mine already would like to pick up another wishing for a 35 rem or a 35 Whelen! I did get my 357max reamer today. They did tell me 4-6 weeks for 444 barrel

H&R doesn't make em, they weld the underlug on, chamber and fit them, Marlin is making all their barrels except the Buffalo Classic 45-70 barrel which is made by Green Mountain. They've also got a 2 week shutdown coming up soon, that's gotta figure into the 8-10 week wait too.

Considering the 357Mag has been out of production twice, just be glad they're still offering it as an accessory barrel.

I got one already. I got it because they did not have any 44 Mag barrels when I ordered mine (two years ago).

The way it turned out I am glad I got the 357 since the 44 mag barrels do not shoot good unless you use an over sized cast bullet.

The over-sized bores seem to have become better. I had a .44 mag barrel fitted back in May. It slugged at .430. The accuracy has been very satisfactory so far. I've been working with loads of Win 296 and 240 gr soft points. The picture shows groups fired at 100 yards last week. This week it produced groups about the same. I'll try and get a picture posted of the new groups later.

To date I have fired four different reloads with the 240's as well Winchester factory 240 gr soft points. Every group using the 240's show little difference in group size. I've had one load pattern like a shot gun. It was a Hornady 265 soft point over IMR 4227.

I have read that the barrels are better now. The reason I wanted one in the first place was because I had every thing to reload with already. I wanted a plinker, but load it up if need be. I had to go out and purchase every thing for the 357. I might consider a 44 barrel again. The reports of the 45 Colt barrels are good too. I would have to go out and purchase all of that too. Dang it

I should take Tim's advice and just buy them all.

Once you're bitten by the bug, its pretty much a lost cause. Many of us find that we have bought the reloading components before we buy the barrels. Once you have the dies, your pretty much compelled to buy the rifle.

You think that's bad.....I've been a nervous wreck for the past several days waiting for the 7x57 barrel to get here from Daniel Laws, he shipped it parcel post. After reading Handi243's post about loosing a barrel in the mail earlier this year that was also shipped from NC, I envisioned some sticky fingered postal employee selling my barrel on ebay!! But it finally showed up on day 10.

Since Marlin is making the barrels for the Handi-Rifle, any idea how many barrels they can manufacture per day? Are they running 3 shifts ?

I would imagine they run barrels in batches, maybe 100 to 500 at a time, otherwise the setup time would kill their production. The 357 barrels are scheduled for production, but those scheduled ahead of them will be made first, hence the wait.

I read somewhere that from start to finish, it takes about 45 minutes to hammer forge out a barrel. At that rate, Marlin can make about 20 barrels a day, assuming they they run 3 shifts 24/7.

Well, they aren't hammer forged, they're button or broach rifled. Once Marlin builds the blank, H&R has to finish it and that will take time also.

New member here. First time post on this site. I have a question on the 357 accessory barrel. I shipped my stock and receiver and forearm back to get the barrel fitted as per insructions on the site. It is supposed to arrive there on Monday the 16th. I read on someone's post that they are going to be shut down. Do you think they will keep my package and fit the barrel when they resume or send it back as undeliverable? Nowhere on there site did it say anything about a shutdown or any specific dates to ship for a barrel.

Welcome to GBO ayoung65!! I'm pretty sure there will be someone there to answer phones and receive shipments, they normally shut down every summer for 1 week, but this year they will be down for 2 weeks.
