7.62x39
« on: June 22, 2007, 08:49:32 AM »
I found a NEF 7.62x39 at a local store, for $150.  I am tempted to just get the thing.  Has anyone here owned one?  Was it able to shoot milspec OK?  Would make for a lot of good cheap shooting, but I don't want to fool with it, if it ain't reliable.

Nope, that's why it was discontinued, it won't shoot milsurp ammo reliably due the hard, recessed primers. But it will shoot sporting ammo good, cast bullets too.

I haven't decided what to do.  I see some potential, but I'm thinking it might be more practical to get a 30/30

OR WHAT I WOULD REALLY LIKE WOULD BE A

.35 Remington, if I could find one.

It's often been said that the 7.62X39 is a .30-30 built for a semi automatic.

That would be a real rare one to find since it's never been made, but two of us have had 357Mag barrels rechambered to 35 Rem, mine shoots 200gr BTB at 2140fps  and 240gr Mt Baldys at 1980fps with accuracy inside an inch at 100yds, very accurate. ;)
