Holster?

I saw the other "holster" thread, and it got me thinking about which one I should get for my new single action.  There's some good info and links on the other thread, but my question is whether to go nylon or leather?  I know leather is stylish, but does it trap a lot of scent particles that would be bad for hunting?

AArgh, a single action in a plastic holster!  :o  :o  :o Isn't that illegal in all 50 of the states?  ;D For sure it's immoral and unethical.  8)

It's been my experience that either works fine and both have their pluses and minuses. The laminate holsters are horribly noisy and that bothers me a LOT more than the scent a leather holster might carry. If they can smell it believe me they've already long since smelled YOU.

I use both but most of the time especially for a single action I go with leather. For my double actlions it's about evenly split really but for a hunting holster I really do prefer leather.

  I gotta agree with GB.  Worry not about scent of the holster.  It's worn by you so it'll have the scent of you.  I wanted a fitted holster for my SA's but also am against nylon or kydex holsters.  I must have leather.  I went with my proven  stuf from Mitch Rosen.  Got a "Sport" model for my SBH.  Perfectly fitted and boned to the gun and still has great retention with ease of drawing.

Leather PERIOD.....

It's the only choice for a single action..... semi auto..... kinky lingerie..... whatever......

God, I can't wait to get to the mall, just to go into Wilson's and smell the stuff.....

Not to mention I have a neighbor who makes harnesses for all the local amish...... I love going in there.....

I keep running out of excuses to be there, but I keep going...

Agree, it's gotta be leather. Here's one from Bob Mernickle that am beginning to really like. Holds the gun high and tight and can be worn in both strong or cross-draw fashion.

A ss Blackhawk in .45 Colt 4 5/8 barrel.  I decided to go with the cheap Hunter versafit.  It works for me.

A+ on the leather stuff.  If you often hunt in sub freezing weather you will learn fast that synthetic/plastic is not what you want. Stiff and extremely noisy.

I have an old Hunter 1100/40 I got out of a used holster box years ago at a gun shop its well worn. My belt and holster both look like there trail worn its a cool look.My New Vaquero looks good in it just as all my Ruger Single Actions do.

I use a leather holster for my woods gun, Bisley Accusport. 

However, I use Uncle Mike's shoulder style nylon holster for my scoped hunting handguns.  It is very quiet and comfortable.  It is more of a gun bucket then a holster though.  I think any fabric will be more quiet then any other holster material, leather or plastic, in the woods! 

Just my thoughts and experiences in the woods.
