Remington Petition
« on: June 22, 2007, 03:45:41 PM »
I have yet to meet anyone on GBO that doesn't slobber when they see the Model 7 Laminated Mannlicher that Remington offers on the Remington Website from the Custom Shop.

Who would be in favor of Remington sending the Model 7 Laminated Mannlicher into mass production instead of just offering it as a $2700 Special Order?  If they could make that rifle and offer it at a normal price, I think it could have quite the following.

Keep in mind that the Model 7 is only a Short Action Rifle and mostly comes in a 20" barrel.   It would leave out alot of popular calibers in long action, unless Remington made a 700 CDL Mannlicher.

If I could buy one of those that was Mass Produced Model 7 Laminated Mannlichers for about $800, I would get one in a heartbeat.

Maybe next year it will be in the Remington catalog next to the other stuff Remington is importing.

I am NOT interested in obtaining an Imported Remington Mannlicher.

If it can't be an AMERICAN MADE Remington, they can keep it.

If I'd want a Charles Daly, I'd buy one at much less than the Remington - (Daly) 798 and 799 currently cost.

They will not use my purchase as economic proof that they can farm out all of the jobs and be successful at it.

I am curious as to why that 7MS costs so much.  It is a great looking rifle.  Would love one in 35 Rem (they do offer that), just can't figure out the price.  Seems like one could be made (custom) on a standard model 7 for a lot less.

Is there anything different about it, other than the stock?  Definately not worth $2600, unless I'm missing something.

To come out of the custom shop, its supposed to have the pick of the littler barrel, hand fitted, etc, etc.  A custom rifle as it were.  I was trying to scrape up $1400 when the price started to jump.  It could be the demand is what has made the price jump.  It would seem that between the XR-100 and the mountain rifle and the Custom Shop Model 7, the Remington factory ought to be running 3 shifts and hiring.

Even tho I'm a poor man, I'd have taken the $1400 .260 hunting but I don't know if I could stand dragging $2800 thru the brush. Then, of course, you'd have to spring for a Leuy VX3 in 1.5x5 to balance it out. No eurotrash on that beauty. :D

I could be wrong, but I think the prices went up because Remington got taken over and the Custom Shop may have been a financial burden to the rest of the Corporation.  Maybe those custom rifles cost alot more than they were selling them for all along.  I do know that the MSRP was never met by anyone who bought a rifle from the Custom Shop.  Everyone I ever talked to that bought a rifle from the Custom Shop ALWAYS paid more than the original price tag.  You can bet that the $1400 rifle you ordered would have cost you alot more than $1400.  The prices in the Custom Shop were always an estimate.

I beleive the Custom Shop will now have to stand on its own merits.  Sink or Swim.

But that doesn't disqualify Remington from going into mass production on a Model 7 Mannlicher... I hope.
