Bullet suggestion time for you all

Looking at taking my 8mm mauser out west elk and muley hunting.  Caliber/rifle decided.
Also, not reloading at this time, so let's rule that out.
Best bullet to get in ammo available?
I shoot S&B 196gr SPCE for deer here in WI. In my rifle, shoots MOA and is devastating on deer from what I've seen so far.  Since it shoots so well in my rifle, and I have success already and confidence in it, I'm leaning towards it. However.......
Hornady custom ammo has soft-point ammo with the Interbond bullet available for not too much $$
Next is Nosler.  They have the Accubond and Partition to chose from (I've already ruled out ballistic tips)
Now I understand shot selection and bullet placement are the most important, but which bullet would you choose?? I don't think the SPCE's from S&B are bonded.  The Accubond seems like a good fit, especially if shooting thru bone or less than ideal angles.  I will not use underpowered US ammo regardless of bullet type.

All the ammo available has pretty similar velocity and I really don't like to shoot over 250 yards (it NEVER happens where I hunt in WI!!)

Which factory available ammo would you select for me?

what grain is the accubond. I had great luck with the accubond on elk in the 200 grain (300 rum). Two one shot kills at 425 yards. One thru the neck with a complete pass thru, and the other eneterd a couple ribs back and exited at base of neck. With performance like this, I would have to recommend the accubond. If they did the deed at 425, I'm sure 250 would be no problem.

Try a wet newspaper Test. Fill a cardboard box with wet newspaper and shoot it. Retrieve the bullets. I did this with the 8mm S&B's and 300 Win. Mag. Fed. Nosler Partitions. The 8mm was not far behind the 300 in Penetration and They held together with good mushrooms. I was very impressed. Keep in mind that the 8mm 196gr. SPCE loses velocity fast out past 200 yards but has a lot of snot up to 200 yds.

I use Nosler Accubonds and Partitions in various different calibers. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I use the partitions where the Accubond is not available in the size I want to use. The Accubonds are a bit more accurate than the Partitions but not enough to make a difference while hunting.

IINM, the Hornady 195 gr 8mm bullet is an Interlock design, not Interbond. I'm not sure how much I'd trust it for tough penetration. Some interlocks have a reputation for shedding the jacket completely; I haven't seen it with the that bullet, but I've not shot anything but white tail deer and wild hog with it either (it was devastating on both). Partition and Accubond (200 gr in both) from Nosler would be a better choice. TSX from Barnes has an excellent reputation too. Some rifles shoot them extremely well, others not...

Since you're shooting a standard cartridge, a standard bullet ought to be sufficient. After all the bullet makers have had more than 100 years to learn what works in an 8mm. Now a .325 WSM or 8mm Rem mag. takes a little more bullet when your game appears up close.

Just load a Partition, or Accubond, and go hunt.  You won't be dissapointed!

  I've harvested literally tons of meat with my 8mm, using 200 NP's as my "one bullet for everything"...  I won't even use anything else these days, as the 200 NP expands very good in smaller animials like coyotes and javolina's, but also will penetrate deep with good expansion in big animials like moose too...  Excelent all around bullet in 8mm!

No need to spend money on the premium stuff unless you want too.....

Thanks for all the responses.
I'm going to stick with what works (196gr S&B's) for now.  Rarely shots needed over 300 yds where we're looking at going--so I'm told.

If I need longer range, I'm leaning towards the Nosler Partitions.....time tested and well-proven.   Some of the others just don't fit the standard  velocity of the 8mm and the Hornady load just seems like a lateral change to another standard bullet.
