scoping 1895 guide gun

I'm currently out of town on a business trip.  I went by a Cabela's store to buy a base and rings for my Marlin 1895 guide gun.  I ended up buying some Warne bases and quick detachable low rings.  The rings are supposed to work with a scope up to 36mm.  I've got a 2-7x33mm Leupold Rifleman to mount on the Marlin.  Will this combination work?  I'm mainly concerned about the rear sight clearance.

How much eye relief does it have? I'd be concerned with scope to forehead clearance.

I think you ll be alright. but like old griz said check  forehead--scope clearance as well.   Jay

I hate to admit it, but that was learned from a painful, personal experience. The end result of which was a 4x shotgun scope with 5.5 inches of eye relief. Turned out for the best. The fixed power Simmons scope has a better, brighter picture than my Leupold or Burris scopes. Who'd a thunk?!?

You should be OK. I used Warne mounts on mine and they seem pretty tough. I did use the high rings, not to clear the scope, but they allow me to get me thumb through so I can carry the gun at the balance point just like a scope wasn't there.

I had Warne quick detach, but switched to a Weaver rings with a knob on the screw. Reason being, the lever on the Warne rings catchs on everything.

I also have used a Nikon shotgun turkey scope with good results. Quick sight picture.

I put on a Zeiss Z-Point in an AO scout mount on mt 1895 G.G. in 45/70.  I've sent 420 grain LFN slugs at top velocity and it has held up to all I send through it, 100.  I am Very satisfied with this setup.  Happy Hunting

AO mount. Leupold VXIII 2-7X33 (4.9" eye relief). Weaver matte mediums.  Scope rear lens is 1/8" forward of rear end of receiver. Good focus and eye relief.

This set up along with Happy Trigger WORKS for me!  Improved accuracy is an understatement!!

I'm using a Vari-X II in 3-9 and I believe I am using the high Weaver rings to clear the hammer and front sight.

All three of my Marlins have Warne QD bases and rings.  The scopes are VX-II 2-7, Vari-X II 2-7 and M8-4x.  All work well.

I don't know what the eye clearance is on the Rifleman 2-7 but the VX-II was chosen for my .45-70 because it has 4.9" of eye relief.  I shoo 460g hardcast at 1812fps, ~45 foot-pounds of recoil with the scope on, and no problems so far.

The rear sight has to be folded down before mounting the scope, otherwise no problems.

I decided to avoid the dent in my forehead by using the XS Sight Systems Lever Scout mount, Weaver rings, and a Leupold FX-II 4x33.

I have the Leupold 2-7X33 Rifleman on my Guide Gun and I'm using a Weaver base and Weaver Quad-Loc Rings.  They work perfectly.  Scope cuts shouldn't be an issue for an experienced rifleman.
