Buying a new scope

I was going to buy a new scope but wonder if i should buy a prostaff or a buckmasters.

Either are pretty decent.......both have life time warranty's.

The more you pay, the more you get.  The extra money you spend will be worth it. The Monarch line is well worth the money if you can aford it. The Buckmaster line is good too.

Out of the two you mentioned, the Buckmaster is better than the Prostaff.

However, the Monarch is even better than the Buckmaster.

I just finished mounting a Mueller on a 12 ga / 222 combo gun.  I was very impressed with the Mueller and for the money I could not find a comparable scope.  A few nights ago I was comparing the Mueller to a Leuplod Vari-X III and I could not tell the difference between the optics in low light conditions.  Also, Mueller has a lifetime warranty.

Personally, I like the Buckmaster better than the ProStaff and believe that the extra money is worth the difference especially during low light situation.

How does the Buckmasters 3-9x compare to the Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x and the Burris FFII 3-9x while we have your attention? I've got a 10x40 Elite 3200 that I really like, have considered one of the variables a time or three. I don't have one of the late model Buckmasters, but I do have some of the Burris FFIIs and like them too. Considering your free shipping on the <$300 Nikons, that makes the Buckmasters mighty tempting!!

I like the Nikon better for the following reasons.  Optically they are all very similar but I think the Nikon is a tad brighter and clearer.  Second, I like the eye relief compared to the Bushnell and third, Burris has had some problems with quality control lately and to be honest, I really would not recommend a Burris until I see the problem starting to get better.

What are you looking to do with the scope, what gun and caliber are you mounting it on?  What is the average shot length, what is the longest shot and closest shot you expect to take?  What type of hunting will you be doing and what are the weather conditions and time of day you will be hunting?

I will be mounting it on an encore in 270 the longest shot will be around 250- 300 yards the closest being 50 yards and i hunt in most conditions but not raining. I also could use base and ring advise. The buck master is looking pretty good though.

You should look at the Mueller APV  http://www.muelleroptics.com/products/MAPV451440.html it is $129. I looked at one but it was too much magnification for the combo gun I was mounting the scope, I went with the 2-7 power.

APV stands for All Purpose Variable, will handle centefire recoil, but isn't rated for spring airguns.

If it has a light transmission rating, I haven't seen it.  But, I just received my APV in the mail on Tuesday.  Last night I compared it to my Burris FFII 3-9.  Both scopes set on 9X.  To my eyes, the APV was a tad bit brighter, but was significantly clearer than the FFII, both in full light and at dusk.  I was very pleasantly surprised.  I kept going back to make sure my mind wasn't playing tricks on me.  Each time I got the same results.

I bought mine from Missou Mule for $115 shipped.  Transaction was very clean and fast.  Thanks Dennis!

All Mueller scopes have a lifetime warranty, but the original sales receipt does need to be transferred with the scope if it's sold.
