small planter
« on: June 25, 2007, 07:54:44 AM »
Put a post on a tractor web site, thought maybe it might help to put one here too. I have about 3 to 31/2 tillable acre's here at my house. Talking with neighbor across the street, who is retired, but helps his son farm between 900 and 1200 acre's, depending on what they can find to rent every year. Most of the farmers in this area, are going heavy into field corn and soybeans, for either bio-diesel or ethanol for flex-fuel. Well, the price of sweet corn, melons and the like, don't look like their coming down much. So, in the coming years, looks like there might be a little business opportunity , for somebody like myself, who like's to garden, to make a little extra cash. The tractor I have is a Yanmar 1810, about 23 or 24 HP.(small diesel) And I have been trying to find a small 2 row planter. Problem is, one of the one's I got some info on, is a John Deere model, and it's a little on the pricey side. Just wondering if any body has some info on another make or model? I would prefer a 2 row, but a single row would work also. Thanks for any help!!-gypsyman

I sent you a private message about this.  There are 5 -  2 row planters -  on ebay at the moment.  Some are pricey, some are reasonable.

Sometimes you can rent what you need, depending on what area you are in.  Farmers sometimes help a neighbor out.  Maybe one can come over with a planter when he is using it on his own property, just to be reimbursed for the fuel.

It doesn't hurt to ask.
