smith & Wesson 360pd question
« on: June 26, 2007, 09:42:39 AM »
I have owned this gun for about 6 months I have 300 rounds of 38 special through it and 50 rounds of 357mag. I went to go shoot it for the first time in about three months and when I picked it up I noticed a rattle. I called smith and they sent me a page that said that everything was normal and it was just the hammer block. I never really noticed this rattle before I shot the gun and I don't really trust what smith is saying because they haven't even looked at the gun. My brother in law has a J frame in the same caliber and his does not make the nose. I am wondering if anybody else has ever had this problem with a smith gun or any gun for that matter.

The hammer block is fairly loosely fit but rattling is unusual.. I haven't heard such a thing but then I don't hear a lot of things any more! If the weapon is functioning correctly and the trigger pull has not become sloppy or overly variable I would just ignore it.. S&W customer service is not what it used to be.. They refuse warranty work on a regular basis and are so slow that checking to see if they are still at the same address is common. That is a shame but unfortunately the truth. Another truth is that S&W has been plagued by QC problems for the past several years. One group of special order K frame guns for a police agency had a high percentage of barrels falling out after the initial test firing.. The frames were cracking as the barrels were being fitted. I was charged over $175 to refinish a revolver that had a failed hammer pivot. Clearly a failure of the metallurgy they refused to fix it as warranty work and charged for refinishing after the stud was replaced. This was a stainless gun! Refinishing was simply a light polishing!! I refuse to buy new S&W guns.. instead relying on Ruger or Taurus. Customer service can break the deal for me!
