Lowest cost, best working butt pad I've found..
« on: June 26, 2007, 11:43:44 AM »
I refurbished the stock on an Anschutz "woodchucker" that I have had for years. I figure it would make a good "truck gun" due to it's compact size and short barrel. I am working with iron sights..even though my old eyes like scopes better.
First, I lengthened the stock by 1.75" and then painted it with Krylon camo paint starting with the light color first..going toward dark.  just a random spray pattern..followed a couple weeks later with a clear coat enamel.

Needed a bit more pull length..plus I wanted a non-slip butt pad. I put the old thinking cap on and started looking around the house for all kinds of suitable material...

There they were..in the mud-room..a pair of John Kerrys..er ..ah ..a pair of flip-flops..

I went to Wally World for some new ones..that cost $1.99..went home and got out my sharp knife and some Pliobond adhesive..you can see how it was done !

Remember; this is a "truck gun", so I didn't carry the finish to great lengths.,.which one could do. I made the original pad from a black flip-flop..but drew the three cutouts on a blue one for visibility's sake.

For that custom stock..the Kerrys now come in many different colors...

Here's a pic of the original...

not a bad idea-the material has to be tough, yet pliable-and waterproof.I've used 1/2''rubber material for a recoil pad,but the shoe sole isn't a bad idea either
ps-are you suggesting John Kerry was a ''flip flop''or were you suggesting he should have his butt kicked?
