Savage .17 HMR
« on: July 01, 2007, 11:49:10 PM »
Hey people, looking at buying a stainless/synthetic 93R17 .17 HMR for rabbits / possums and magpies. Was wondering if there is a noticeable difference between a heavy barrel and a std when it comes to accuracy?

Please feel free to comment.

Thanks heaps

I've got one with the bull barrel and it is a tack driver. Not a bad rifle to tote even with the heavy barrel. I have not shot the sporter weight to compare though. The accu-trigger makes a world of difference. I turned it down to the lightest possible setting and it's been pure hell on groundhogs, crows, and even a porcupine.  If you are going after edibles, you may want to stick to head shots, as the hornadys I'm shooting are quite destructive.  I'm not sure that you could go wrong with either one.
