First reloading results...Yea!
« on: May 30, 2003, 06:14:37 AM »
:-D Well after all the setup, adjustments and miscues Longwinters amd I hit the range yesterday.
I reloaded some .300 Wby with 75gr of IMR 4831 trying 165gr Hornady BT Spitzers and some 165gr bonded BearClaws.

The Hornady (2)5 shot groups averaged 1.5" and the BearClaws a very respectable 0.77  I had a couple rounds left and Longwinters took a shot with my Sako Hunter .300 Wby and shot a perfect piwheel Bullseye!
(must be the Sako  )
I was really pleased with the BearClaws and am not going to mess with success. I loaded more today for practice purposes, but will stick with this combo for my Elk hunt.

The 7MM Mag was interesting. 140 Noslers in front of 62gr of 4831 did great  , under an inch, but the 160gr were a different story. The starting load of 59gr of 4831 was terrible(2.2"). The 61gr load was a little better 1.9". Next I'll try a 63gr and 65gr load and see what happens with the 160 gr Nosler Partitions.

I really am enjoying reloading again :-D  Thanks for all the advice guys! :D

As a refinement you may want to try Hodgdon 4831SC. You use the same load data as for Hodgdon 4831, but it meters better.  I use it and I like it.  (I realize that you're using IMR 4831.)

I have a 7mm Rem. BDL and I couldn't get the Noslor Partition bullets to shoot in my gun. You might get them to shoot in your gun if you play with it for awhile. If you don't have success with them you might try 60gr. 4350 powder and 160 gr BT Sierra bullets. I am not saying this will work in your gun, but you might give it a try sometime if nothing else works for you. Carl L.
