Savage 93

I'm thinking about a Savage model 93.For those of you who have them, which did you get and why? 93F,93FV,or93G? I like the idea of a little heavier rifle but I don't know about the 93FV.Is it too heavy forward to shoot offhand?

I had a 93F for a while and liked it well enough. Savage builds a handy, accurate rifle and doesn't charge much for them; I honestly think they are a better buy than the Marlins, especially the newest ones with the Accutrigger ;) Mine was a pre-Accutrigger model and I got it for a very good price (around $140 IIRC). The trigger was good enough for my purposes and the rifle was more accurate than I could ever be, even with just the factory sights. I ended up selling mine to help finance a Henry because A. .22WMR is getting too expensive for me and B. the magazines that it uses are very poor in my opinion. I doubt the Marlin ones are much better, but the stamped steel clips Savage is selling are not good designs; both of mine had feeding problems and misshaped feed lips--better quality control or a tubular magazine would solve this issue. I can easily recommend the rifle, but just watch out for the clips. If they work right, you'll have a damn fine rifle for the money in my book ;D Hopefully, Savage/Lakefield Arms will come out with a better clip design or better yet a tube-fed version of this series at some point in the future. I hope this helps some & best of luck with your decision...if you get good mags, I think you'll be quite happy with a Savage 93.

Kind Regards,

I have a 93GL in .22mag and it is my favorite bolt action rimfire. It is a tack driver and the accutrigger is great, beats the heck out of all the other factory options out there. I don't really see the need for the heavy barrel, but I don't shoot p-dogs. I mostly use mine for squirrels and any other unlucky small game that comes within the 100 yard range.

A suggestion if I may.
Go with a wood stock and Accutrigger.

That's what I did.  I just bought a 93FV, 17hmr.  Wood stock, heavy barrel and accutrigger.  Man is it a sweet shooting gun.  A couple of years ago I had the Ruger 77/17 and it shot OK.  The Savage is much better, the accutrigger is really nice.  It comes preset from the factory at the lowest poundage, I think it's about 2.5 lbs.  It's not too heavy to hold offhand.  In fact, I think the extra weight works well to add some stability.

I have a 93v17 BVSS, mine is an older one before the accutrigger, the trigger is the only thing I would change out if it does not have the new one on it. But mine has a laminated stock on it so I haven't thought about replacing it.
