NEED HELP IDENITY

I HAVE PICKED UP A SMITH AND WESSON WITH APPROXIMATLEY 4 INCH BARREL.  IT IS A 6 SHOT 22 LONG RIFLE.  THE SERIAL NUMBER IS 17,1XX .  IT HAS A FLAT LATCH.  I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS.

TRIED MY PIC IS TO LARGE A FILE AND MY CAMERA WILL ONLY GO DOWN TO A 3.2 MEG PIXEL.  TRIED TO LOWER QUALITY OF PIC

Hard to tell by not looking at it, But the Only Two 6 shot revolver's I know of are the small-J-frame size model 34  and the larger K-Frame size model 18, Both Having 4" Barrels. The Flat latch cylinder release Points towards the J-Frame model 34 Kit Gun. In the serial range you gave, it should be a Five screw revolver from around 1956. It should have Four screws holding the side plate and one in front of the trigger guard. Is it Blued or Nickel ? Regards, Hammerdown
