The standard contour H&R barrel is on the heavy side compared to other common sporter weight barrels, they're often mistaken for bull barrels by those that aren't familiar with them. The taper and muzzle diameter is where the difference is, bull barrels will be ~.800" at the muzzle, standard contour will be any where from ~.625" to ~.750", depending on chambering and length. Superlights will be <.650" with very little taper from just in front of the chamber swell to the muzzle.

The 7-08 is a fine caliber.  There are lots of bullets in .284".  The 7-08 is also one of the most efficient cartridge designs available today.

I've put more 7-08 rounds down range in silhouette shooting than any other CF rifle.  At 500yds they still have more retained energy than a .308, with less recoil.

The 7mm-08 is my favorite deer cartridge.  Inherent accuracy from the .308 case, great energy on big game out to 250 to 300 yards, and moderate recoil.

I guess what I am saying is....BUY IT!

I would buy it also. I have been working up some hand loads for mine and it is starting to look promising. Charlie
