Back from Digger War's (LDDR&VSO2)
« on: May 30, 2003, 05:19:09 PM »
Had a great trip.   Dawn to dusk shooting with lots of star filled nights around camp - good food & drink and the best company.    This was the year of the 17's, and they did the job very well.   17HMR's, a 17 CCM, 17 Ackley Hornets and a 17 Mach IV did the lions share.... but a 22 Squirrel, some Hornets, 221 Fireballs, a 223 and a 22BR saw some duty as well..... sent about 2000 diggers to meet their maker - 80-85% of them with the 17's.   Shots were well under 500 yards even with the .224's on these smallish Beldings, but the Hummer's made some noteable kills over 350 (and how about my 170 yard 2nd shot kill with a Ruger Super Bearcat -    - OK, so it was a Hail Mary).

Here's a few pics from the trip...

Base camp was again right in one of my rancher's fields along the edge of BLM rangeland.   I always start off DW at dawn on the first day by shooting right from camp.   Took us most of the day this year to clear this quarter section for our host rancher.

The typical night skies in Nevada this time of year are truly an added treat at DW.

The 17 Bullberry Hummer scores a D/D at about 170 yards.

Our campsite even came with a shower that came by every 24 hours to serve us.

Digger Heaven is a single field about 1 X 3 miles that even 2 long days of shooting with 3 hunters on just one end barely put a dent in its digger population.

Now that DW is behind us for another year, I will start working on this years LJR's (my shoots for jackrabbits).   Sure glad MidSouth sent me another couple of bricks for the Hummer's while I was north...

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Ladobe, sounds like you guys had a good time. Thanks for the pictures I really enjoyed them. I think you could really test your guns in that field. Carl L.
