help with brass
« on: July 07, 2007, 12:08:54 PM »
Had a guy drop off a bucket of brass to me last week. full of 45acp 38 special 9mm and 32 remington. problem is some of them are corroded and most of them are dirty. simple enough just throw it in the shaker. Wrong. half of them are primed. question is is it safe to deprime them in a press or is there another method other than making a wooden jig and smacking them with a hammer. Last option doesn't sound appealing to me. Any knowledge would be great. Thanks

I've de-primed quite a few cases with live primers using a decapping die on my single stage press. Just take it SLOW and you should have no problems.

I have de-primed quite a few LIVE cases over the years with out so much as one going off , i do use a full face shield like the ones that are used to grind with just in case one would happen to go pop .

The odds are that they will not go off but better safe than sorry so use the proper eye and hearing protection .
