Can you get enough power out of BP to compete in 1000 yard target shooting. I am using a Buffalo Classic and want to load black powder cartridges. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

You can definitely use the BC for 1,000 yard, but of course you will have replace the sights. Mine has had some problems with the rifling not grabbing the bullet over about 1300fps with just plain lead. X-Terminator was what I used to move a 500gr slug at about 1800fps

Jeez, wouldn't you consider that load just a wee bit too much in a Buffalo Classic? As for the first question, that's going to be the rub - sights. And recoil with a 550gr. or so bullet that you'd use for 1000 yd shooting.

The load was within the loading manual spec's and was not a max load. It did hurt to much to shoot very many rounds, so I ended up pulling the bullets and going to a much more pleasant load. The load was not too hot for the BC however, just my shoulder

To your first question, take a look at this site:

Yes sir, Mr. Slim - I didn't mean pressure problems but rather recoil. Them light guns really hurt with big loads.

19 ounces of lead in the bolt hole and even 550 gr loads at 1550 fps aren't too bad.
