Black Powder loads for 1000 yard competition
« on: July 07, 2007, 06:57:00 PM »
Can you get enough power out of BP to compete in 1000 yard target shooting.  I am using a Buffalo Classic and want to load black powder cartridges.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with your rifle, nor do you state what cartridge you are using. However BPCR can and are fired to 1000 yards and beyond. The origins of todays Palma matches is the series of long range rifle matches hald at Creedmoor, Dollymount and Wimbledon in the 1870s where muzzle loading and breech loading rifles were used out to 1000 yards.

With regards to power from BP, I got home yesterday from shooting my muzzle loading match rifle in a match held at 1000, 1100 & 1200 yards. See the following forums for more information on long range shooting and BP:
