optimal redhawk trigger pull
« on: May 30, 2003, 08:40:15 PM »
How about this one guys.  What is the optimal trigger pull weight to be used in hunting or on the gun in general.  I've seen kits from companies with 11, 12, 14lb springs.  I know that the trigger spring in this model doubles as the hammer return spring.  Will too light of a trigger cause the hammer not to strike the primer hard enough?  Any help would be great again!!!!!! :D

There is the trigger spring and the hammer spring. I installed the 10# TRIGGER spring and the 12# HAMMER spring and with a little polishing have a nice crisp 2.75-3 lb pull on my SRH 44. If you go lighter than the 12# on the HAMMER spring  misfires will happen. Too light on the TRIGGER spring and trigger return could be a problem if the gun were to get dirty. Also the TRIGGER spring is the latch spring for the trigger asm, there is a slight possability that with heavy loads the latch could ease forward and release the trigger assembly.  On a 454 the 12# HAMMER spring is just a little iffy because of the use of small rifle primers.  I have had problems with Rem primers but none of the others. Of course they are mostly the problem but thats another post. :)

I put the lightest trigger spring in mine and kept the factory hammer spring.  I experimented with the lighter hammer springs and had misfires.  The combo I used gave me a 3.75 lb trigger pull which I was happy with since this gun had no creep and was smooth to start with.
