Contender hammer selecter?
« on: July 09, 2007, 05:11:11 AM »
Well I think I just bought a contender 35rem super 14 off of GA havn't got hold of the seller yet, but my quistion is on my old contender before the G2 my selecter from centerfire to rimfire was a dial type selector, well on the picture of this gun I'm getting it doesn't look like the same seltor switch, instead it has a square peg that runs through the hammer. Is this the selecter?

Yes, you push it one way for center fire and the other way for rim fire, as I recall.  In the center position there may be a pin that sticks out that prevents full hammer fall.

That square peg through the hammer is not the rf/cf selector but was intended as a hammer safety.  To change from rf to cf on such models insert a straight edge screwdriver into the face of the cocked hammer and rotate the striker 180*.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to try to find the old style hammer with the dial on top and change it out, I like that style better.

That hammer with the firing pin selector on top is the most recent pre-G2 design.  T/C will convert the hammer from the slide bar type for a small fee.   The hammer is factory fitted to the frame.
