« on: July 09, 2007, 08:55:24 AM »
hi i have a browning blr .308 model 81 i bought just for deer hunting last year i had it out and i must have shot at 12 different deer and not a chance of hitting one unless i was on a good rest. i find the trigger is way too long and heavy and solutions for this???? can it be adjusted or is there a hair trigger conversion for it????
any help is appreciated.

thanks.

While there are thankfully no 'hair trigger conversions' for the BLR, any decent gunsmith (not a blacksmith or parts swapper) can clean up the BLR trigger.  It will be very serviceable but will never be a 'target' grade trigger.  12 missed deer makes me curious about your BLR.  What type of sights are you using?  How is it sighted?  What type of groups are you getting?  How many rounds have you put through your BLR since you bought it?

Welcome to GBO!! ;) Shoot it a lot and it will smooth up, mine's at 4lbs-10oz, smooth and breaks crisply after 24yrs of just shooting it. Not BR quality, but capable of making a 300yd+ one shot kill on a deer, I was laying across an old stump with my coat rolled up under the rifle, and too many too count offhand shots at 100-150yds on deer, elk and coyotes. That shoot-a-lot practice is good for ya, doesn't hurt to have a great trigger from the get go, but shooting it a lot under field conditions is what makes a good rifleman. ;)

buddy took my dads blr from a creapy 8lbs down to a good crisp 3lb trigger so it can be done. Just make sure the gunsmith your using is capable of doing it right.

Forget the trigger and pratice ! I have 3 blr's and have never missed a deer, bear, elk or moose because of the trigger. I didn't do anything with the triggers. You youginns are getting too pickey or spoiled. If you are that bad with a blr, try shooing an untuned Grand, M14 or a mauser or springfield..

dont know about you country boy but i couldnt hit a barn door with a moa gun at a 100 yards off hand with a gun with a 8 lb trigger. I can live with a creap free 4 lb trigger but i will not abide any creap in a trigger and like them around 2-3 lbs.

All I'm saying is you can get used to most any rifle with a lot of pratice.

I agree with Lloyd.  My groups with any gun go down with a crisp trigger.  It can even be a little hard but it can't be creepy or crunchy for me to shoot it well.  I would rather have it a little hard than a little to lite.  I put a Rifle Basix trigger in a Savage bolt gun and the most I could get out of it was 1.3 pounds.  It was scary lite.  I like the 2-3 pound range the best.
