25-06 w/ Accubonds
« on: July 10, 2007, 03:08:14 AM »
Just wondering what velocities you guys are getting out of the 110 Accubonds out of your 06's.  I've been shooting the 100gr XLC's @ 3450fps out of my 26" Encore but accuracy wasn't there so it's time for a switch.  I've always had great accuracy with the Accubonds in my other guns I just hope I can get um to shoot fast enough for the 300yrd zero I like on all my speedgoat/muley guns.  I hope I can find a load other then R22 because I found it to be very temp sensitive, but I'll take what I can get.  Thanks for any info.  Brett

3450 fps is smokin with a 100 gr. bullet. I;ve gotton 3150 fps with the four loads i've tried with the Accubond. I'm sure I could coax another 50 fps. out of them even though they are pretty close to max. My Sendero also has a 26" bbl.

His pressures are probably running no more than 75,000 to 80,000 psi. Heck that's not more than a 50% over pressure situation.  ::) Any good .257 Wheatherby should be able to match that with a 26" barrel and hot loads.

You're more then welcome to look at the Barnes manual.  They list the coated xlc at over 3400fps.  In my 24" guns this load does 3380ish but the 26" tube does 3448fps.  I'm 1/2 grain under max w/ R22.  Do you really think I'm at a dangerous level.  I really didn't think I was.  No need for smart comments.

I tried some Moly coated bullets in my 25-06 with various results. Velocities were a little higher than bare bullets. Accuracy was not as good though. I will give up a hundred fps for a .25" gain in accuracy. What is your trajectory like with a 300 yard zero? I normally sight mine in for 200 yards. and have had NO trouble killing deer at 350+

Some rifles prefer to not be running at MAX velocites or pressures to achieve the best accuracy. If ya got any of those bullets left, try backing off on your load and see what happens. I tried RE powders in mine and it just didn't shoot to suit me. I ended up using H1000 and H4831sc.  I load 100gr Corlokts and 120gr Sierra HPs.

The factory loaded 25-06 accubonds from fed are listed as 3100 fps with a 24'' barrel. Got some to try in 28'' prohunter. Just guesssing, but should pick up 50-100 fps with longer barrel. I know this is a reload thread but sometimes I have had better luck with fac. than handloads. Sometimes accuracy and velocities are hard to match with handloads, again sometimes handloading is a must.

good luck, DM

chrono some of the Hornady light mag ammo. Then try to equal that stuff with hand loads.! My 06 was getting over 2900 fps with that ammo using the 180 grain load. I could feel the difference in recoil AND barrel heat. Less than 1 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yards, benched and 9x scope. My best handloads were 200 fps slower.
