Replacement for Pyrodex?

My supply of Pyrodex is almost gone and I am thinking about trying something new.  Being an 'old stick-in-the-mud' I have not paid any attention to the new powders.  Considering that I like to shoot loose powder with lead minis, what powders are worth considering?  Thanks.

I still use Goex black powder, of course my traditionals are flintlocks...I don't know how hard it is to find where you are located, but I even use Goex in my inline, I tried 777 and didn't like it, Pryodex R-S did fine, but I shoot my flintlocks much more than the inline, so I just worked up a load with Goex...

I like real black powder best, and Pyrodex next best. I tried 777 and found it a lot harder to get the rifle clean. There was a crud ring left where the ball was seated, that was a brute to get out.

Why fix what ain't broke?    Pyrodex was my first love till someone started bringing in Goex at a way cheaper cost.  I still keep a good supply of Pyrodex for backup.   As for the other powders, don't like 777 and can't get APP way out here.

Have you ever tried real black powder? Chances are if you have never used real black powder, and you try it, you won't go back to any of the substitute powders. Goex is the most popular/widely available, and is the brand I use, and recommend.  Graf's And Sons, www.grafs.com,  sells thier own brand of black, and others.

Goex...so far, everybody I know who's ever switched to real black powder like Goex has never gone back to a substitute powder...Goex is fast, clean, and accurate...and ignition is NEVER in question like the occasional delay fire with Pyrodex in a caplock.

I used Pyrodex for years in caplocks until I moved into Flintlocks and had to switch to real black...it is so outstanding that I went back and rezeroed my caplocks with it...buy it by the 25lb case from a Goex distributor... www.jjpyrotechnics.com

Talked to a man from precision bullets last week about an elk load for a 50cal Hawken
he says GOEX FFF with 400 grain conical, start with 70gr and work up, that seems like a very lite charge to me but i have not been at this but about 2 weeks
do any of you have suggestions for elk loads with 50 cal hawken T/C 1-48 twist

A ton of buffalo were killed with a 45-70...That was a .45 lead bullet with 70 grains of powder...

He said start at 70 grains and go UP...Anywhere from 80-100 will be a plenty...When you get to 100, make sure you are holding that rifle nice and tight...

Muzzle loaders kill with bullet mass, not high velocity...

Yeah i have already experienced the 100gr powder and 385 gr bullet, it does get your attention
Lately i have been shooting paper with 85gr goex fffg and 245gr buffalo ballets, am really getting into this, shooting 5 shot 5" groups
