Whoops, have to clarify myself.  There is nothing wrong with the jaws of trap as per  Cavens'  specifications.  Caven had a problem with  a shipment of jaws  (from what i was told) and he was holding up putting  more together  till he got the right quality jaws for the 550.
akchuck  this isnt a bodygrip but a smaller version  foothold of thier quality canine and cat traps.

I bought one to look at.  While the craftsman ship is superb I thought the trap was grossly under powered and grossly over the budget that most could afford.  Those heavy jaws, if moving much dirt or cover will need more power in my humble opinion.

It seems today that a lot of guys simply want the to have the newest, most fancy toy on the market.  In a market where money really matters if one is trying to watch costs it seems improbable that this trap is affordable.

Newt, I thought you were a die hard long spring advocate?

Macinmaine, Yep I like DLS . But for the live market my #3's are much to hard on the gray fox that sometimes get in them.
I like the wide jaws and the springs NOT being over powered.

i talked to Bob Young at the se nta, he thinks they got the jaw supply problem fixed.
seemed the first 4 places that tried to make em couldn't get her-done to Tim's standards.
just by playing with that one trap while talking to Bob if i could afford to trade off all my traps and replace em the 550's i would in a heart beat.

Tis business now days.  Glen  could have made other models also.  Remember the Northwoods nb4  four coil with offset  cast jaws?  Same idea  but  they didnt continue manufacturing them...

I remember northwoods well enough, guess i missed the #4 though i was in the east and rat trapping then, used some of there 100 bt
and 1 1/2 coils always liked em and they were inexpensive then compared to other brands...and i was not  knocking MB's efforts, just I have met Glen and he is a solid down to earth Man, couldn't  help but like him, we talked quite a while at a convention and he only said his name was Glen.he had to excuse him self to give a demo....we talked then later. All i can say is there was No brag, no airs and he had a good sense of humor. In the Demo it became apparent the man knows about traps. I suppose if I met Tim and his family I might think the same of them, but alas....

From what I have seen of them I like them..Im a fan of cast jaw traps anyway, I use some of the 650-C's. Tim's a stand up guy and if there's any issues with the trap Im sure they will make it right.
Love them Big Iron's
