Hogue monogrip vs. pachmayr decelerator

Alright, here is another one.  I have a hogue monogrip on my ruger redhawk. I have fairly large hands and it seems to me to be a little skinny feeling in the hand, but the feel is excellent.  Is the decelerator a better grip? A fatter grip?  Which one do you all prefer?

I have a Hogue grip on my Super Red Hawk.  Just like you, it feels a little skinny, but still ok to me.  Ordered a Pachmyer grip for it; the fatter grip felt great in my hand, but it fit the gun poorly, to the point that I felt that the grip and the gun could not be joined safely.  I returned the Pachmyer (no problem with the folks at www.midsouthshooterssupply.com) and have been satisfied with the Hogue.

Mebbe I put in on wrong, but I don't think so.  If you decide to try it out on a SRH, and it works, let me know.

You might contact Hogue. I just checked out the online store and several options are listed in wood. There are "big butt" models listed. They may be for large hands. Dave

I have big hands. I switched to Pachmayrs for my S&W 629, shot it a while, then went back to the Hogues. I like them better.  I do, however, prefer Pachmayrs on a Contender.

CKNIGHT98:

I know what you mean about how they're not the best looking grips. You should see them on a blued gun, instead of a stainless gun. Yecch.  But they do perform, so I use them.

I love the Pachmyer decelerator my 629. Worked better than the Hogue.  Then I got the Pachmyer for my Super Redhawk and that didn't work very good.  The grip was too wide from the front to back for me.  The angle of the grip is worse for the recoil.  It gives alot of muzzle flip.  I haven't tried the Hogue yet, but Paul H said he had more muzzle flip too with that.

Good Luck if you can find one to touch and hold it is better.

I have Hogue monogrips on my lighter caliber Smiths. I shoot heavy hard cast rounds out of my Redhawk (320grLBT 21.5gr H110) and find that the Decelerator grip really helps take the sting out of shooting these heavy loads. By the way, have you put a Wolff spring kit on your Redhawk? It really makes for a nice light smooth action, like getting an expensive trigger job.

Another nice thing about Hogue for those of you who tree hunt:Hogue offers an extended stud, that permits attaching a lanyard.saves dropping the piece out if a treestand,canoe,etc.].Costs ~$2.00+shipping.Pachmayr doesn't offer this.

Normally I put Hogues on all my DA revolvers. The Redhawk was the only exception. The gun just didn't feel right. The distance to the trigger felt longer, and the gun sat up higher (or the gripping surface felt lower). I put the wood grips back on and just got a good glove.
