Located 4 more to get after on Saturday...
« on: July 12, 2007, 12:15:43 PM »
I went to feed the feeder today. There was a large black boar and three smaller black boars rooting around under it even though it had not fed since this morning. We fed the feeder, reset the timer for increased feed in the AM and PM to keep them in the neighborhood and are plotting a Saturday morning strategy to get them.

Tonight and tomorrow are out so far as going after them right away due to work, gotta support that mortgage. They will be back, more relaxed, and we'll hit them Saturday morning.

Sounds like the plotting of the strategy is already done. ;D

Not exactly, although I understand what you are indicting...there were four of them, there could be more (or less).  I would LOVE to get all four.

My regular hunting partner, who is joining me, is disabled from lung cancer and can not walk long distance (50 feet) without losing his breath.  I have to get him on stand first, then situate myself to catch them in a cross fire without endangering Dave or me.  The tree stands are pre-set this way, but we don't usually use them this way.

I am also thinking of asking the Sheriff across the street, my neighbor, if he has the time to join us and I will let him take my place on the cross fire line (an EASY shot) and I will scoot to the back end of the property to catch any stragglers that get away or arrive late to the PARTY.

Killing them ALL is the desired strategy.  No stragglers or run aways.  If one gets hit and doesn't go down, the adjacent lands, and mine, are too thick to go after hogs without dogs, which I don't have.

Landowner, you didn't have any around most of the winter and now they are coming in hot and heavy. Did your crops start coming up or what? And I hope you can nail them before they tear your place apart again.

Landowner, how did the hunt go?  Did you get them?

Josh, my 11 y.o., shot his first hog Saturday morning; a 55 yd. shot, through the neck that anchored the 70# sow in her tracks, from a steady rest, all the while feeling every bit of the hunter's "jitters".

Three got away.  Dave's wife's BP pegged out at over 240 systolic in the wee hours early Saturday morning.  He had to pull out of the hunt.  She's OK now but scared.

Josh and I went alone and I sat with him to give aid and encouragement.  He was shaking like a leaf but took the shot as I backed him up so wouldn't "fall off the tree stand" from the recoil of the Marlin 336 in 30-30 caliber.  What a Trooper he is.  When he sat down, the smile on his face was PRICELESS.
