Deal or No Deal on 4" GP100 for $400
« on: July 13, 2007, 04:29:06 PM »
Ok, so I stopped by a local gun store tonight and saw a very lightly used GP100 4" for $400.  They had a brand new one identical to it for $530.  Keep in mind that I've been wanting one of these for a very long time.

One of the salesmen said that he thought the original owner had some trigger work done to it.  I compared it to the brand new one and it was undoubtedly better.  The only problem was I know I have handled this exact same gun there months and months ago, but they swore up and down that they've only had this one for a few weeks.  I don't believe them and the place has a reputation of being run be some "A" holes (please edit that if it's not ok to type that).  Whether or not the gun is being sold by these guys or not, it was still built by Ruger and needs a good home.

I just couldn't get over that I knew they're lying about how long they've had it so I walked away.  There wasn't any more wear and tear on the used one than there was on the new one and I'm still debating on it.

Is $400 an unbelievable deal that I should have jumped on or was I smart to have walked away.

Deal or No Deal??

if you cuddle up to a snake you are going to get bit!

any more questions; or is that (respectfully) clear enough?

i wouldn't go near the place.

take care, and look for a better price, too.    a new gp-100 at a gun show could probably be had for 450 to 470 dollars with little haggling.

Got my GP-100 SS new this spring out the door for $480.   If you suspect the dealer is a bit shady or just don't like their attitude there are plenty of honest decent people to deal with,  they'll all be happy to take your money but who will be happy to deal with you if you have a problem or want to go back for more accurate info?

The problem in my town is that the best guy to deal with just moved to Arizona.  He was 5 minutes from work and I could go there over lunch.  The only local people left are, A.) a guy who has been in a little legal trouble and is very shady.  B.) the most expensive place in town that's also a little shady and C.) Gander Mountain who is pretty hit or miss on any good deals.  I'm just going to have to start driving a little farther to some other gun stores unfortunately.

Gander Mountain, and a little-bit-longer drive are your two best options.   i believe it'll be worth it.

a firearm is probablly your most valuable hobby-type tool after the computer that you use for this forum.   i can't see dealing with a 'huckster' just to save a few dollars, with regret looming in the future over the deal.   think of your firearm as an heirloom, too.    then it'll be easier to see its value and why we advise restraint when buying from a 'troubled' dealer.

take care,

Great gun, but the price is high. Add in a questionable dealer's ethics, and I say "No Deal".  Keep looking. There are more out there and for better prices.
