bought a used receiver today
« on: July 15, 2007, 04:14:31 PM »
I just won an auction on Gunbroker for a 2005 Handi receiver. It will cost me $80 for including shipping and my FFL. Is that a fair price? I wanted to have a receiver for all three of my barrels. I just need to go over to the classifieds and list for a palletwood forearm since I already have a stock. I see an auction on Gunbroker fairly regularly for Handi receivers. This just caught me in the mood to go ahead and bid on on. Charlie

Charlie. That's funny I have been watching the same one there for a couple days. It might be a little high but Quick could tell you for sure. I think he has bought a few there. I have recently been hooked to that site and see myself doing some real bidding there.    Dale

Not a bad price, just make sure it's an SB2 if it's for a rifle barrel. ;) I've never bought anything on GB, never even registered there.

Sorry Tim. What site did you buy your receivers then? Thanks Dale

Most of em right here at GBO in the NEF Classifieds, I've bought a couple complete rifles at other classifieds, but never from an auction site. ;D

It's an SB2 second serial # of V so it is a 2005 model. Would that be ejector or extractor? I think I will be happier with a receiver/stock set up for all 3 of my barrels. I know most people don't have a problem but there is a tinge of doubt in my mind about pulling the trigger on one if I haven't had time to shoot a "confidence" round between barrel changes. Charlie

The receiver has nothing to do with ejector or extractor. It a function of the barrel. The receiver will shoot either. ;D

"V" is about as late on a reciever as I would go because of the extra hole being added in '06. Sight hole or some such thing, boils down to an extra hole and I just don't like the looks of 'em.  :P
Extractor or ejector, no matter as long as your barrel has a nice tight lock up with the forearm on. You can even change forearms around to achieve this. Ideally you want a tight lockup without the forearm but the forearm will aid in tightening one up. Which barrel are you gonna try to fit to this one? Was that $80 plus shipping and an FFL fee? Hope not, that'd be a little steep I'd think. Give me a shout by email or phone and I'll put you onto a $10 FFL if that would help.

Charlie,

I took that as shipping and FFL included in the $80, if so, that's a darn good price.

Just because they say it's an SB2, doesn't mean it is, without at least inspecting it, the only sure way to know is check with H&R, since you have the serial number, a free call is all it would take.

As far as the latch engagement view port that John doesn't care for, that's purely cosmetic, most people aren't even gonna notice it, I have 2 or 3 of em, doesn't bother me in the least.  ;)

Yeah that was $80 into my hands. Thanks John on the offer for the FFL. I have been using A&W Pawn just outside of town for my last few gunbroker guns. I like Wayne there so I think I will use him. He only charges $15. I will be mounting my 7mm 08 on this receiver if I can get a good fit right away which will leave my Ultra set up for my 243 bull. Charlie
