redfield 6x18 50mm with rangefinder warranty/service?
« on: July 16, 2007, 08:13:55 PM »
I have an older redfield 6-18X50mm with a rangefinder but I can't get the lines for the rangefinder to move when changing the elevation.  The lines are at the top of the scope.  I bought it used on 788 remington 22-250 and would like to be able to use the rangefinder.  Any ideas what's wrong?  Are they lifetime like most scopes and where would I send it in for service?  Thanks

I don't think they move by changing elevation. You use the power ring to bracket what your ranging and then it tells you the range in the bottom right scale. Then you adjust the elevation on your main cross hairs to correspond to that range. But if it needs repair you can try ABO (USA),INC.

So if I am on 6 power the lines should be somewhere near the crosshairs right?  Then they should spread out when I turn the power ring up?  Correct.  Thanks

The two lines are set to bracket 15-18" at 100yrds., they do not move. To bracket a chuck at say 400yrds. you turn the power ring and the magnification brackets the 15" chuck between the lines. Then look at your scale to see how many yrds. away it is, it should read 400, then if you have BDC-Bullet drop compensator you turn your elevation turrent to the right yardage.

If it's an American made Redfield and you do need service, you probably need to send it to Mike Sexton, ABO takes forever, like 3-4 months. ::)

My brackets are sitting at the very top of the scope right now.  I remember Dad had a wide angle redfield and the brackets were 1 on top the crosshairs and 1 on bottom.  Then you turned the ring and pinched the target, read the yardage and elevated with the top dial on the scope.  I seen him knock a buck down at the center pivot of an irrigation unit like this we figured over 600 yards with a .280 awesome!!   Thanks guys!!
