G23
« on: July 17, 2007, 11:44:12 AM »
I am looking @ a G23 3 mags, and UBG Canute holster for 375. I have a few questions

1. Is this a good price? Does your answer depend on what generation it is?

2. How do I tell what generation it is?

3. Is there anything I should look out for?

Based on pricing around here that is a STEAL. If I walked into my gunshop and saw that it would have come home RAT THEN I'd not have waited and let some other smart buyer grab it up before me. CALL NOW and tell them to hold it for you.

I posted a WTB on a local gun board. I am waiting on responses to some questions. I have heard not so good things about some of the earlier models. Nothing but good about the generation 3.

Don't know nuttin about generations other than it was the name of a sci fi spin off of Star Trek. My 19 (same as 23 but in 9mm rather than .40 S&W) is about as old as any of them are and it's as good a gun as I've owned. I'd have no hesitation in grabbing up that one you mentioned if I came onto it at my dealer's shop. I'd not have walked out without it.

I know the 3rd gens have the rail on front for mounting accessories. I just got an email from the seller. It is looking pretty good.

Was in the shop this morning after shooting skeet. New price was $499.90 for the Model 23. Nope I didn't take it home at that price.

Dat's why I said that I'd not have hesitated one moment to take that one home with me at that price of course after examining it to be sure all is OK with it. To my mind that is a super price as is any below $400 on any used Glock in decent shape. The three mags and holster really add to the value. The NIB one here only came with two mags.

GENERATIONS OF GLOCKS CAN BE TOLD BY THE HAND GRIPS.   FIRST GENERATION GLOCK WILL HAVE NOTHING ON THE HANDEL.  SECOND GENERATION WILL HAVE LITTLE SQUARES OR THAT IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO ME.  3 GENERATION HAS THE LIGHT RAIL AND GROOVED FINGERS IN THE HANDLE.   I OWN A GUN STORE AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ONE GENERATION HAVING MORE PROBLEMS THAN ANOTHER ONE.  GOOD PRICE ON IT DEPENDING ON GENERATION.  IF IT IS 1 OR 2 YOU CAN BUY THEM FROM 350-400.  ACTUALLY CDNN HAS G23 WITH NIGHT SIGHTS 1ST AND 2ND GEN FOR 330.  THEY ARE POLICE TRADE INS. FOR A 3RD GENERATION THEY GO FROM 400 USED TO 529 NEW.

Found a like new 3rd gen. mdl 22 for $325 with one 10rd mag and no box. Didn't really want the gun, and for sure didn't need it! Just the same, it now resides in my home. I just couldn't pass it up!

Yup that one would have come home with me too at that price. Any time you can get a Glock for much under $400 used it's a good buy and you'll likely be able to turn a profit on it should you wish to at some later date.

The 23 is a great pistol.  It is great for concealed carry as it combines accuracy, power and capacity in a compact pistol.  Here is a pic of mine.

I agree. The UBG holster it came with is pretty cool too.

Here are the differences.

The G23 is only out there in 2nd and 3rd Gen.

The 1st gen style is only around on a G17, G17L, G18 and VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY few (like 10) G19s.

The 2.5 Gen style is only around on the G20, G21, G26, G27, G28, G29, G30, G33, G36 and G39.

The G23 is a great little polymer wonder...I purchased a used one about 2 years ago for $400.00 and that was with night sites...I love shooting it.
