birthday discounts on midwayusa???
« on: July 18, 2007, 06:04:53 AM »
I received an email from Midway USA saying I had a discount for my birthday. I think when you open the link, you have to you it right now. Does anyone know how much the discount is?

I received one of those for my Bday also. The discount is not all that much and their shipping prices are crazy.  Dale

They'll give you "special" pricing on most items when you're logged in, it's not very special and as Dale said, their shipping can be real costly. Compare their prices with Midsouth(a GBO sponsor), most, if not all items that Midsouth carries are less at their regular price than Midway's "sale" prices and Midsouth's shipping is very reasonable. Midway does carry a lot of stuff that Midsouth doesn't.

Midways shipping prices aren't the best but their customer service is the best by far. I bought a hornady electronic scale from them two years ago. Three months ago it decided not to work anymore, so I sent it back and got a RCBS electronic scale instead. I have never heard of any company have a warranty on electronics that long. I also purchased a pair of the cheap electronic hear protection, had them for about six months and they started to crackle and make noise so I sent them back and got my money back.

Well I used my discount last year to buy a R&D conversion cylinder for my Pietta 1851 Colt. Save close to 30 bucks on it! This year I order a new Lee 6 cavity bullet mold in .358. I didn't think shipping was out of line myself. they gave me 4 or 5 different shipping options. They have a great customer service department too.

With a C&R their prices are okay.  The shipping is too high as others have said.  The FFL discount given to C&R holders is not consistent (nonexistant on reloading components), but it is significant.  They ship and have a great website too.  As with all things you need to shop around and find the cheapest TOTAL price.  I have no problem waiting 7-10 days for Super Saver shipping from Amazon.com just to save $5, but most people don't.

The birthday discount isn't given to FFL holders, by the way.  I have more than recouped my $30 license fee to the ATF just by discounted purchases from Midway, Grafs, and others.  Let alone that I can order a surplus rifle or two without transfer fees or markups.

Just in the last two weeks I've had to get products from  sources other than Midway due to their pricing or shipping costs. Example on pricing was an order for a Timney trigger for a Ruger M77 and one for a Savage 110. Midsouth beat them by $14 per unit. Example on shipping was a multi-item order for which I kept getting items back-ordered. After picking a couple of alternates in place of the back-ordered items I was checking out when I was informed a box of bullets were being back-ordered and that the shipping at a later date on that $21 item was to be $11. I canceled the whole order and placed an order with Grafs. Everything I wanted was in stock and even though their prices are a tad higher on each item with their $3.95 handling fee per order including shipping the overall cost of the order was appreciably less for me than from Midway.

Yesterday I received an email from Midway commenting on my browsing their website and asking for feedback. I gave it to them by relating the fore-mentioned to them. They responded by emailing me that their shipping was fair. There was no comment on the pricing issue.

Thinking about it, Midway's customer service....sucks.  I emailed complaints 3 different times and have gotten no responses.  Hmm.  I think that my biggest issue with Midway is "Backordered, expected 6-16" no "Backordered, expected 7-20", no "Backordered, expected 8-20".  You either have it in transit or not and if you don't know then don't specifiy a date.

Graf's cash discount policy/credit card upcharge irritates me.  They have good service from what I have seen, but are limited to pretty much reloading only.

Buy everything you can from Midsouth, don't worry about the shipping....I will go across the street and pick it up for you. I promise to enjoy as much as you would.

I did buy a bunch from midsouth on my birthday. If you buy enough stuff then shipping isn't so bad. I usually ask 1 or 2 friends to fins some stuff they want and one of us places the order and we split the shipping. Ask some of your shooting buddies to go in on the order with you. BTW, I think you have to go through the link they email you to see the birthday discounts.

Midsouth charges ONLY the ACTUAL shipping cost to get it to you. You pay only what they pay.
