3 1/2" 20ga
« on: July 18, 2007, 06:49:14 AM »
Anybody had their 20ga re chambered for the 3 1/2" 20ga yet? Any reports or where to have re chamber done cost guesstimate? Could it be done to other bbl than the ultra 20 ? Kurt

Kurt,

Where are you headed with this project?  Have you found a place that sells the Hastings 3 1/2" slugs?

Hey guys, I went and dug up a couple old posts about this, one in this forum and one in the Slug Guns Forum. Hastings had a press release on July 15th, introducing their NEW 3-1/2" 20 ga Slug Gun. Looks like they have joined forces with H&R/NEF after all. Check it out.

Midway sells the slugs. I got a call back from the guy at hasting that developed this he called after my first post .I don't think NEF is inline with this they take the ultra 20 and rechamber it to 3 1/2" now mind you I am pretty much gun spec dumb so this is what I got from what he told me. Some how they change the bbl pressure spec from NEF17,000psi to their 24,000psi
I asked if any competent gunsmith could do the rechamber and he said no now whether that is just marketing ploy or not I do not know but he said that the box to box and different length cases that stay just as accurate has something to do with the way the roll crimp becomes part of the chamber. I think that before I mess this whole thing up I should let one of you guys that know what he may be talking about talk to him and explain it better but sounded good to me but then I've had smoke blown up my you know what before. But ya send your bbl to a company that they have commissioned to do the rechamber $120 shell price is not that bad compared to some other sabot's. Kurt

Well, let me rephrase that. Looks like Hastings has contracted H&R/NEF to make a gun with the Hastings name on it.

I will if I can complete this deal on a 20ga ultra for $140 I will send my bbl in and have it done just to have one if for no other reason. Did the same thing  when the 3 1/2 12ga came out . kind goofy when ya think about I just bought my first 20ga slug gun for the lighter recoil now I want a 3 1/2 go figure. Kurt

OK, I wonder what weight you could stabilize if you shoved one of these in it using black powder?

Oh heck yes! I'd never consider using factory; I have been known however to stick a .615 bullet on top of a case load of Pyrodex in a brass 20 ga.

Smokes a lot and kicks like hell!
