Black Talons
« on: July 18, 2007, 09:54:14 AM »
I found a box of .357 Black Talons that I had put in a plastic reloaded ammo box way back when. The original box is long gone. I was wondering, what is the weight of the .357 Black Talon bullets?

....Im not sure what your intentions are with them; but I personally wouldnt use them on anything with more than two legs.  They were great on bad guys, but I had seriously disappointing results on wild boar with the 44mags in a 14" Contender.

I would be very cautious where I used the Black Talons period! Not only will it do a great deal of damage to a bad guy, it can cause a surgeon serious injuries when trying to remove it from a bad guy.  The Black Talon is designed to have razor sharp "talons", which when touched by a surgeon may cause cuts to his fingers that can prevent him from doing surgery, sometimes permanently, it may also cause the medical folks to be exposed to AIDS, etc. from the cuts to their fingers while operating on the bad guy.

I have no problem with causing all kinds of pain and damage to a bad guy, but I do have reservations about hurting an Innocent party, possibly one that might have to work on me.

The hype about surgeons cutting themselves on sharp edges is mostly nonsense, and started by the Gun Control crowd.  That surgeons stick their hands into wounds is true, but hopefully someone who has spent 4 years in college and 4 years in medical school plus Interned and done Fellowships, might just be a little bit careful, especially since hes digging around inside of trauma a patient. Yes Talons have sharp edges but so do pieces of auto glass, does that mean we shouldnt take accident victims to the ER. Last I checked IED's had sharp edges as well.  This is the same "Ban the Bullet" nonsense that wont allow hollow point ammo in New Jersey even for out of state police.  If youre that concerned tell the medics you shot the bad man with baaad bullets.

Sharp edges havent stopped the police from using Talons.  Only bad publicity did that, so Winchester just changed the name to XTP and made the jacket copper coloured and the case brass.  Maybe we should switch to "Pink Powder Puff" rounds.  They could be the same exact loads as you carry right now but just marketed as P3's.  Imagine your testimony, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I warned the suspect, 'Stop or I'll shoot you with my Pink Powder Puffs'.  When he charged me I was forced to defend myself.  Atleast they werent evil Black Talons."

As a retired USAF field medic, I can say with reasonable certainty that all bullet and shrapnel searches were done with probes, usually soft metal, unless an explosive round is suspected, then plastic probes were used to locate and then appropriate clamps were used for excision.

Remember how it was supposed to be a "spinning buzz saw slicing through its victim"?  :o  Sure are a lot of ignorant liberals out there.
