Sixgunner.com?!? What happened?
« on: July 19, 2007, 12:04:22 PM »
Hey fellers,

I've been away from forums for awhile and ready to wade back into the healing waters - so to speak.  I've noticed Sixgunner.com is down?  What's up?  Have I missed a new web address or something?

over on handloader they covered their problems today.
Dan Deluca aka "warrior1" has passed away.  Dan was a frequent poster here and on several other sites.  He passed away on 12/29/08 from a massive heart attack. RIP Dan.

Since you seem to know why not just tell him and everyone else reading?

Well, I mosied over to Handloader to see what's up and the speculation ranges from hacker attack to "took the money and run" from leather work he was supposed to provide.

It's interesting to see how quickly a guy can go from friend to foe.

As for me, I'll wait it out and give him the benefit of the doubt.  I've dealt with many a custom 'smith or leather bender who took a forever longer than their already lengthy lead time to get me my goods.  Also there are many squib rounds life can hand you and sometimes you need a little extra time and care to set things right again.

I'll keep checking back and hoping he's able to set things right.  It was a good campfire.

All I know is that back in January of 2007, I paid him for a holster rig and kept trying to find out why he wouldn't deliver.   Other men started chiming in.   They too had been stood up as far back as 2003.   Things began to heat up to almost a lynching and wham!, everything shut down.   He left a contact e-mail address though, and I asked him for a refund.   He responded to the e-mail which surprised me somewhat.   Said he would be glad to repay me.   But it's been nearly a month and I've not heard another word from him.   If he ever does make good on his promise I'll surely post it.

"He" who...is it still joel running the show?

I was a regular there starting back in '98 or so...then when Joel bought the place from Jim Taylor, and proved himself to be less than honest, I split, and haven't been back since...

Sure wish it could be like the old days again.  - Josh M.

Josh:
Joel Cosby is his name.    Why didn't someone I.D. him a long time ago?    When I put in my order back in January of this yr., I was 47 on the list.   That adds up to a pretty good chuck of money.

Yeah, I know.  I miss it too. :(
Great folks from all walks of life on there made it interesting.

But   :D the good thing is - there's a great bunch of folks on here too, and seems that most give Graybeard a lot of respect, and I'm sure he'd like for them to come and set a spell here.

I've visited a bit but never really spent a lot of time over at sixgunner.com or leverguns.com. I think I did register at both at one time but just didn't really have the time to get too involved over there. I thought I recalled that Paco owned both and that Jim helped him with the technical end of the computer business like Matt does me here. Is that right, wrong or what? Are you saying that Paco and Jim are no longer involved with those sites or am I just plain remembering wrong about them?

Yeah I agree from my times over there the folks were a pretty good bunch that I respected and I think at least most there felt somewhat similar about me. I'm sure most of the folks there would fit fine here if they wanted to come over. I seem to recall that Glenn Fryxell used to hang out there regular and visit here from time to time as well. That rascal is a real fountain of info and any site he winds up at will be richer for it. He has an articale in SIXGUNNER magazine most of the time.

Well Graybeard, I don't know who owns what over there, but one of the men brought up the subject of who "He" (JC) was, and to my recollection an old-timer on the forum stated -  - "after all this is his site", or something to that effect.    Maybe S.B. can tell you more.

I probably know fewer, by their usernames than anyone else around? A lot of time, I'll look at someones profile to see age, geological location, what they are willing to show but, most younger posters aren't willing to give up much information about themselves and I do feel most mature posters are more than willing to share their knowledge. Just know, likes been stated here,  that the wealth of information was abundant and the people were friendly. This place is no slouch for information, either, doesn't take a back seat to any other board I've been on.
I do know I always figured J.T. was the original owner, forever a gentleman and always felt like I'd like to meet him, someday? Kinda like a hunting buddy, that you could disagree about the color of the sky with and still sit around and have a drink with, after the hunt is done.

Now, about this drink, Bill, with you in Bama and me up here in the sucker state, where are we going to get together for it?

Check over on Leverguns.  Seems that this is the place where most sixgunners are hanging out.
First figure out what it is and what it ain't and thats generally a good place to start.

Hobie, A moderator on Leverguns and a regular poster on Sixgunner says that Joel is working on getting Sixgunner back running.  According to Hobie the website was infected with a virus.  Leverguns went through something similar and was down for a short time.

The only virus I saw that was being spread was the fact that he's been swindling lots of men out of their money through his advertising of gun leather.

Well Sir; if  "JC" will refund ALL of us I'll be quick to admit I shot out of turn.   We've tried to be gentlemen about this whole mess, hoping he would show some kind of remorse.   But the run around is what the others tell me they're getting.    One poor kid is over in IRAQ right now and can't cope with the situation 'JC' has put him in , but has to concentrate on his duties .    JC  should come forward and pay up.    No more needs to be said.

Maybe just two issues.
1.  There are many who say JC did not treat them fairly regarding his leather (or lack of) business and;
2.  Why is sixgun.com down?

I CAN'T COMMENT ON NUMBER ONE.
WHAT IS THE ANSWER ON NUMBER TWO.
Does anyone KNOW, or is the central issue item one?

Jim Taylor and Paco Kelly (or perhaps just Jim Taylor) owned sixgunner.com for years.  Jim finally sold the site to Joel Cosby several years ago, who is the current owner of it and who did the changes to the new-style forum.  Joel also set up the leather shop.  I have heard that he was only the retailer and had major supplier problems ... and doesn't seem to have given customer service a priority.  He can do what he wants; my only beef is that most of the articles on the old sixgunner are lost in cyberspace somewhere.

Do not confuse sixgunner.com with sixguns.com.  Sixguns.com was John Taffin's site and had the corresponding "campfire" board.  Mr. Taffin sold the site several years ago as well.  The current owner has been kind enough to keep it up, though the discussion board is gone.

Sixgunner was hit with a virus the details of which are beyond me ... it did not disable the site that I know of, but it is possible that it is down for maintenance - it did need some work.  Whether that is the reason, or whether Cosby did not appreciate the personal attacks on him over the leather deal - who knows, time will tell.  Personally, I do not look for it to come back.
