Weight of a Rem Mod 7 in 300 SAUM??????
« on: July 20, 2007, 03:34:45 AM »
Can somebody tell me the weight of a Rem Mod 7? It is stainless/synthetic with a 22" barrel. Their website says it is 7 1/8#'s. That seems a little heavy for a "lightweight" gun.

Thanks-Tim

It seems your heart is set on that caliber, I was about to suggest another mag but they are all 22" and all weigh the same. Decisions decisions....

On another note, to myself and others that is indeed a lightweight. Most of mine weigh 9 to 9.5 without scope/rings/base/bipod. The VLS rig weighs the most, with everything on it, close to 14 lbs  :o

Got off track, sorry.

By no means is my heart set on this caliber.I came across a deal and was trying to justify it somehow. I do have experience with this round and have loaded several hundred rounds for it.I actually prefer it over the 300 WSM,but that is me. I should've asked about any magnum caliber, not just the SAUM. Just wanting to get an idea about the weight difference betwwen it and a 700 with a 24 or 26" barrel.

Please understand up front that weights of long guns both rifle and shotgun vary from the standard due to wood density if the stock material is wood. On a full size rifle that can mean any given rifle is light or heavy of the standard by several ounces but still it's a good general point of reference.

The "standard" weight of the magnum model 7 XCR is 7-1/8 pound or 7 pounds 2 ounces. Since the stocks on these are synthetic I suspect that weight is more uniform than on wood stocked guns like the CDL. The magnum weight standard for the CDL is 7-3/8 pound or 7 pounds six ounces for the .300 SAUM you asked about.

Even with compact and light weight scopes and aluminum base/rings you'd have to add another 16 to 20 ounces to get a dry weight of gun/scope. That does not include your sling of choice or ammo.

My Model 7 7mm SAUM blue/laminate just arrived and is 7lbs 8oz out of the box. Looking for a cast off KS stock for it now.
