back in the old days before anyone started commercially loading snake shot we used to put a 3 grains of Bullseye in a 38 special case, followed by a piece of corrigated pasteboard, filler up with # 9 bird shot, leaving enough room for a cardboard cap with a little hot wax to seal the deal.
On the 45acp side, same load, except now we used 410 guage shotcups cut down with sicissors and a 38 (I believe it was) gas check topper, which was ran thru the criping die to secure it. All this was loaded in a cut down 308, or 3006 brass. Revovler brass was much easier.
