My wife thinks I'm paranoid....I love my paranoia, it keeps me safe.  After reading these posts I realize I'm just a piker.  M&P 40 under the pillow with extra mag on the night stand.  Kimber and Colt .45's within 3 steps.  11-87 Police Mag with a gut full of #4 buck just on the other side of that.  Beretta 96G about the same distance.  AR in the guitar room full of SS109's and if all that fails I have a harmonica. No human can stand up to an assault from that.  Did I mention my Gerber MkII..1970 model Vietnam proven???? Oh, if I have leisure time and light...Rem.700 Classic in 300 Weatherby.  That'll learn the durn devils!
But, my favorite of all, no lie, is my 36 inch "black stick".  I'd rather beat an idiot with my stick than shoot him.  Shoot him and he don't learn nothin'.  Whoop him with a stick and you get his attention....instant rehab!
"By all means, make friends with the dog...but do not set aside the stick".

When I was about 21 I had an old man level a side hammer double on my face from 6 feet and cock both hammers.  The thing that most got me was the feeling of utter helplessness.  I was completely at his disposal.

On another occasion on vacation I had a man approach myself and my wife intent on robbing us.  As I pushed her behind my back, I had the same feeling.  He was about 250 and very muscular.  I weighed at the time about 150.  It was one of those situations where you know you can't win but you have to try.  A security guard happened up at just the right moment.

I talked my way out of the mess with the old man.  Only a gun could have saved the second situation if the guard had not happened up.

I carry a Glock 17 pretty much everywhere I go, but for home defense my 12 gauge would be my 1st choice.

that why i always carry my CRKT m-16 or outdoor life knife. People tell me all the time " that little thing will not stop anyone" but i have been carrying a knife as of the age of 13(21 now) and you know what? no one wants to be cut ;D only one time did it need to leave my pocket and they got the point real quick. I also carry OC spary now to. Have you saw the Gun and ammo yearly mag for 09, they have a very good story about found weopons that could save your life.

I have a RPG by the bed. If, that doesn't stop them my wife and I will exit the rear door of the house and man the m108_ mounted with a 105mm howitzer. The neighbors may be a little nervous but who cares, I need to protect my trailer home.

Taurus Judge with 5 rnds of 00buck in bedside table, hopefully that'll get me about 3 steps to the closet for the Rem1100.  First 3 rnds are 00buck, last two are hp slugs, in case he has a partner waiting outside.

OH lots of people like #4 buck as it is still buck and will work well both indoor and outside and holds some where between 27 to 41 .24 caliber balls.
Kind of like touching off a whole AR 15 Mag out of each shell.

Locking this thread is useless---It will just pop up again.
If you go back thru the back pages of this forum you will find the same discussion started over and over again.
HUMMMM, must be a really nice trailer. Double wide?
Speaking of such, there is a trailer park near me and in two spaces is a really nice double wide. ::)

It is redundant and boring. It solves no dispute as there is no right or wrong-----at least it is one place.
I read it once a month or so when I am having trouble falling asleep.

William,
Judging from the number of responses, many find it entertaining.
