SA , i had a tube put in just such a bbl with RS . I didn't doubt your post , just a different finding not odd in the gun world .
I have been told by several dealers that copper plated #1 buck is no longer made as it is not a great seller . SHAME !
I remember when #0 buck could be had for the 20 ga. GONE and it seems #2 is not far behind SHAME again !
Try GRAF and sons

I carry a G27 40 S&W on me all the time.  In the bedroom, I have a Mossberg 500 Persuader loaded with 8 rounds of #1 buck with 6 additional rounds in a side saddle=3 #1 buck and 3 1oz slugs. My wife carries a taurus 85 ultra lite loaded with federal 125 gr jhp +p. We both have surefire lites and cell phones on the nitestands, also.

No kids at home so don't have to worry about locking anything up.

My best efforts have not turned up a source for 2 3/4" 20 pellet #1 buck. Seems only the standard 16 pellet load is currently manufactured.

SharonAnne,

Have you had a chance to try the Winchester 3" #1 buck with 24 pellets @ 1040 fps?   This is the load my shotgun likes....

I won't swear to this , but I "could've" sworn my rem loads were 20 count , perhaps they are no longer made as these shells do have some years on them , I would need to look at one of the boxes but I could swear they are 20 count
I will look into this , unless I forget , if they are 20 count I will give you the stock number , if I forget please feel free to remind me , I can't go digging around at this time of night , or I will wake those whom should remain asleep.

44,I have not. Each of my shotguns, an 870 and an 1100, are 2 3/4".

Maybe if enough of us ask Winchester, Remington or Federal for 20 pellet 2  3/4" #1B we can get one of them to make a run. The Federal was supposedly the best round since it had a plastic shot cup and granular filler. Winchester has granular filler but no shot cup. I believe Remington is the same.

I could not find ANY buckshot for civilians from Federal. Police only.  Remington has one load, product code - 12B1. It is 2 3/4" 16 pellets of #1Buckshot.  Winchester has 2 loads, one each 2 3/4" and 3". XB121 for the 2 3/4" 16 pellet load and XB1231 for the 3" 24 pellet load of #1Buck.

I have not tried it. Can't make head nor tail of the web site. Seems from the chart that the loads are less than 1 oz. but in the pictures the shells are labled 1 1/4 oz. I e-mailed them asking for a chart showing pellets per load . They do make #1B but I have no idea what the loads are. have YOU tried them?

SharonAnne,

I did a little checking on the 2 3/4" short magnum #1 buck loads and they were listed at a little over 1000 fps.   That would be consistent with the velocity of the 3" 24 pellet loads.    I definitely think the slower velocity helps keep the pellets tighter.   I use to do a bit of Cowboy shooting and my 1oz BP loads of #7 shot at 975 fps would come out like a big lead sap.   This is out of a modified choke.  This same shotgun would take a 1 oz load at 1150 fps and it would open up as you would expect from a bird load.

we have tried the 00 buck and the #4 buck both very hot . i agree with the faster the more it opens , at turkey shoots we sometimes use 2-2-10 loads a slow load that keeps the pattern very tight .

I'm fortunate to live in rural Colorado 25 miles from the nearest small town, well, with gas prices as they are that is not so fortunate as it used to be, but crime here is almost in the "don't happen" category. I'm more concerned with bears and lions than with two leggeds. I have a Winchester pump with the 22" barrel, full length mag, choke tubes, and express sights. I replaced the front bead with a big 1/8" tritium bead and keep it loaded with S&B slugs. With the S&B ammo it will hold a 5" group at 100 yards and with those coarse express sights I doubt I could do any better with a rifle. I also keep a Ruger 3" Sp-101 with laser grips at the bed side for indoor use but if the dogs go loco in the night it is likely outdoors and that is "Winchester country".
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

when the police arrive you say " i believed I was in danger. I will be filing charges. I do not consent to a search of my home. I will make a statement and answer questions when I have talked to my lawyer."

the police can search the immediate 'crime scene' but cannot search your entire residence without permission or a warrant. this keeps them from confiscating all of your guns and equipment as 'evidence' and gives your lawyer time to protect your property from unwarranted seizure.

Don't see it so much in the media these days maybe because I only watch Fox, but used to be they loved to report how the homeowner had a huge arsenal in his home. If the cops found a brick or two of 22s in your house the press would make it sound like you are a survivalist wierdo lying in wait for some poor dummy to step across your thresh hold so you can blast him to smitherines.

Sharon has it right we need to think about what happens after we might have to defend ourselves. Her advice is dead on. The most important thing to make clear, I was afraid for my safety or someone elses safety. After something as traumatic as a shooting your mind is not working correctly. Cops are told to be very careful about what they say after they have been involved. You need time to sort your thoughts, many times the shooters don't even remember how many shots they fired. A lawyer is a good idea, but always remember that you felt threatened, this is key to self defense.
