.35 Rem LeverRevolution Ammo
« on: July 23, 2007, 11:09:22 AM »
Any comments / field tests with this new ammo, .35 Rem caliber only, would be appreciated.
Lots of posts on for the .30-30 ammo but none for the .35 Rem., that I could find.

Tried it on paper and it groups very well, better than Rem. 200 grn. Core-Lokts, from my 336 Marlin.
Hopefully someone out there has tried it on game last season.
Thanks

Tried it in my Marlin 336CS, it didn't like them as much as the Rem 200gr CL. It REALLY likes the Remingtons. REALLY.

I haven't tried them in my Rem 141 (24" bbl), have heard other's had good luck.  I emailed Hornady if it was ok in older guns, never got a response.

Also, haven't hunted with them, yet, so I can't comment on effectiveness.

I only tried some, for the first time, this Spring - but intend to use it this November on Maine whitetails.

It shoots with about the same good accuracy in my 1967 336SC as Remingtons, etc - but the POI is about 4" higher @ 100yds, with my Williams peep. Not enough to concern me, on game.

There is a write up of them, on targets, in the current issue of Rifle Shooter mag.  He compares two marlins, one old, one new.  They were VERY accurate in both of his rifles.

Hunted with them last season in my 336CS.  As far as how the rifle handled them, I had it to the gun shop twice before finding out form someone here that I needed to replace the follower in order to keep the hornady rounds from jamming up.  So far it seems to have fixed the issue.  I shot 3 feral hogs,  and one bobcat with those rounds.  THe largest hog went a bit over 200# and the smallest one was over #150.  Since I take only a behind the ear shot, they all dropped immediately.  The bobcat was shot between the shoulder blades and dropped straight down as well.   They seem to be good rounds, but as for their being better than the  Rem 200gr Core Lokt's I can't really say.   If you have an older rifle, you will probably have to replace the follower or eventually experience the jam as a number of us apparently have.   Good luck.

Oh yes, in the article I mentioned, one rifle was a brand new stainless model, the other was a 50 year old Marlin, so I'd think it would be safe in all of their 35's.  I cannot see Marlin producing ammo for any of their production rifles and it not being safe in ALL of them.

I have shot one deer with the LE ammo in the 35 rem and it was stone cold dead with one shot at about 100 yards. I have found very good accuracy in all 3 of my 35 Rems with the ammo. I have a 336D, 336CS, and 336SC.

But not if you load a non-LeverEvolution round first/last - against the follower.  ;D   ::)

When you say 'older rifle' how old is old?  My 336 was made in '66. Didn't have any problems when sighting in and I realize this is different than a hunting scenario when you may try to chamber a new round quickly.
