Ruger GP 100 Opinions?

I am thinking about getting a 357 mag revolver. The stainless 6" GP 100 Ruger looks like a sweet gun. I prefer a large frame revolver, but unfortunately in The Peoples Republic of Kalifornia my choices are limited. I prefer the double action to the single action. The sights on the GP 100 look pretty nice. What say you?

i got a blued 4" and i love it i added some hogue standard grips to it and rugers fiber optic front sight. its a fantastic revolver. buy it you wont regret it

I think the 4" balances better. But either way you'll be happy.

I have a 6" SS GP100 and a blue 4" GP100. Excellent revolvers, very good accuaracy and super strong.

Bought a blued 6 " barreled GP-100 in 2003.  Very nice gun, accurate, convinced me that I don't need a Smith and Wesson.  My only complaint is that when I first shot it the rear sites were off, adjusted them.  The forcing cone is of close tolerances to the cylinder, which is good, but I have to wipe the cylinder front down with Hoppes cleaner every 30-40 rounds or the gun will bind up.  I used a fine file to cleanup the forcing cone somewhat.

If I was to get another one I would buy the stainless in a 4" barrel to be different.  With the amount of shooting that I do with the GP-100, (200-250 rds of .38 specials and some .357 mag. a year) I cannot see how I would ever wear it out.

I have a GP100 SS with the 6"bbl. Its a great shooting gun and I have even taken hogs and a deer or 2 with it just using the iron sights. Its accurate and I have never had a problem with it.

There may be some out there, but personally, I've never met a GP 100 owner who didn't like the gun.

I have had mine since about '86 or '87. Put a B-Square rib mount on it and a 4 power redfield scope. With a good hanload it is dead on at 100 yards. I have taken deer here in Alaska with and without the scope. Right now I just changed from the scope to a BSA red dot. I was just out trying to shoot my not so handi-rifle (NEF) and was getting frustrated with it and took out my GP100 and it shot better than my handi-rifle at 100 yards. I put on Hogue grips and it just feels better with it on, I have a Colt with Pachmyer grips but prefer the Hogue grips. I like the 6" barrel myself, better bullet velocity and stability. Mine likes speer gold dot bullets. I have tried many powders with this bullet and have come to love  Hogden H110. Hope this helps, Geo.

I bought mine the day I got my CCW in NY. It was used, but was and is a great buy. They are very tough and utterly reliable, as is the case with just about every Ruger firearm. The triggers can generally use work for the best shooting, but they break in and adjust well. I think that the GP100 is a great handgun.
