Took two Devildogs that just got back home from over seas out this past weekend on a hog hunt with dogs and knives. Had a great time and caught 3 nice eatters. SORRY no pics but the hogs went from 50 - 100 pounds or so. Nothing big was caught or really seen. It was a blast taking these two guys out and letting them experiance it for the first time.
The Marines Story and the pics they took:
Well I made it to TX with my huntin buddy John on Sat morning, Shane told me to get some sleep which we did but we were not prepared for what was about to come!!!
Sat evening was a bit overcast so Shane made the call to hunt a little early, around 7:30 before it got dark , in a milo feild that a farmer had been runnin hogs out of as he was harvesting. There was alot of good sign but with all the rain ths pigs were dispersed. We will revisit this feild later.
Next stop a big farm and a series of corn and milo feilds. I had been watching the dogs in amazement at how closly they work with each other as they all had different personalities. One of the younger dogs really caught my attention, New Blue. Blue would be runnin along side and just disapear, then reapear. It was about the third field we hit, standing corn, Blue took off Sandy followed then the rest, it was on!! They bayed a pig and we released the catch dogs, so we followed. As I was running through this corn feild chasing after hogs with nothing but a knife strapped to my hip I thought, "What the hell am I doing". We hit a group of little ones and they scattered, we followed them for about an hour and came up with nothin.
After a water break for the dogs and us we started back out. two feilds later we struck again, hogs scatering everywhere, All the sudden squealin we ran and I got my first stick on a meat hog. Everyone needs practice.
It was acouple feilds after that ant the dogs had another one, we had to wait a while for John to catch up to stick it. Another meat hog both about 60-70 lbs.
It was about 0600 when we called it quits!! Tommorrow is a new day!!
Shane picked us up about 1930. We hunted hard all night, I was still in awe at the effectiveness of those dogs. We hit the feild that we started on the day before last at around 0400. We hunted the whole feild and on our way back to the truck there were the hogs a big one too. The dogs had a hog down and we were running toward it when a couple of the other dogs struck another one. It was me and Matt running towards one, and Shane and John that took down the other. I dont know what happened at that point but there was a hog stuck and other pigs running all over.
All I have to say is thank you Shane and your dad Johnny for the hospitality. The action was better than downtown Bahgdad. You wore out 2 U.S Marines way to go LOL..Like i said I think I am gonna ad that to the regular work out program!!!! I will be back, you have not seen the last of me
Here are a couple pics of the last hog killed:
